      2011 V Star 950 Features

      • Engine Features - The New 2011 V Star 950 57.5 cubic inch (942 cc) engine is an air-cooled SOHC 60° V twin. With four valves per cylinder, a pent-roof shaped combustion chamber, and 9.0 : 1 compression ratio, this engine has been carefully designed to produce excellent power characteristics and best-in-class acceleration. To keep friction loss to a minimum and help the engine achieve the ideal performance characteristics, special compact roller-type rocker arms with needle bearings are used. These also reduce top-end weight for excellent mass centralization. The combustion chamber shape was precisely engineered to direct the fuel air charge into the center of the piston for faster combustion and maximum power. Ceramic-compositeplated cylinders provide excellent heat dissipation and reduced oil consumption. High-quality forged aluminum pistons have a lightweight, high-strength compact design that contributes to reduce vibration. The designers realized that the engine’s V twin character was so pleasing on its own that a counterbalancer was unnecessary. This also contributes to simplicity and less operating noise. Sophisticated fuel injection is used on the V Star 950. The injectors are four-hole, two-directional types with spray aimed at the valve surfaces. That produces good fuel atomization for faster and more complete combustion which contributes to excellent drivability. The fuel injection system also adopts an ISC (Idling Speed Control) valve for outstanding idling stability. Lubrication is provided by a simple, reliable wet sump system. The 5-speed transmission is all new, with a smooth shifting feeling, and gear ratios spaced to let the rider take full advantage of the engine’s torque characteristics and enjoy comfortable cruising at highway speeds. Naturally, power is efficiently transferred to the rear wheel using simple, quiet belt drive. The engine’s look is highly detailed, with polished cylinder fins and beautifully chrome-plated cylinder head covers, for an exceptional appearance sure to be noticed. The New 2011 V Star 950 achieves fuel economy up to an estimated 47 mpg with a fuel tank that holds 4.4 gallons of gas.

      • Chassis Features - The New 2011 V Star 950 steel double-cradle frame is long and low, contributing to the bike’s spacious 95.9-inch (2435mm) overall length and 66.3-inch wheelbase. That means a great ride to go along with the great looks. The seat height a mere 26.5 inches off the pavement, one of the lowest around, and a fuel tank that’s made as narrow as possible where it meets the seat, it is easy for most riders to put both feet firmly on the ground. Fenders are real steel, front and rear. That adds to the quality look and feel, and makes customization easier. The big 18-inch front wheel helps deliver this cruiser motorcycle’s sporty handling characteristics and 'Sport Classic' cruiser looks. The low-profile 130/70-18 tire is mounted on an 8-spoke lightweight aluminum wheel. The 170/70-16 bias ply rear tire adds a beefy look and helps transfer all that torque and power to the pavement. Large 320mm front and 298mm rear discs provide strong braking capacity with excellent feel. Front forks feature big 41mm tubes, and rear suspension is a bottom-link-type monocross shock. Settings are calibrated to deliver a plush ride that is increasingly firm as the suspension is compressed for good handling and comfort over bigger bumps in the road. The V Star 950 has a wonderfully light feel. Surprisingly, even though it has a full-size chassis, the bike weighs just 613 pounds wet, with a full tank of gas and all fluids.

When Stryker is parked, it’s sure to draw attention. Precision machined details abound, like the slit pattern in the headlight and meter. The rear fender over the wide rear tire is richly sculpted. It’s clear that this is no run-of-the-mill cruiser. Large 320mm front and 310mm rear discs provide serious stopping power.

              2011 Star Raider Features

              • Engine Features - The New 2011 Star Raider equipped 113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, OHV with 4 valves per cylinder, pushrod 48-degree V-twin pumps out max torque at just 2500 rpm and max power at 4500 rpm for powerful, relaxed cruising. Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder provide optimum combustion efficiency along with classically beautiful engine architecture. Ceramic-composite plated cylinders for superior heat dissipation with forged pistons cooled by oil jets. Provides outstanding reliability and longer engine life. 9.48 : 1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board. Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions, wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization. A 3.5-liter airbox is hidden in the area below the fuel tank for great performance and clean styling. Two-into-one-into-two exhaust with Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP®) inside boosts torque in the 2500-3500-rpm range. Special custom-machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

              • Chassis Features - The New 2011 Star Raider all-aluminum cast frame is light, rigid and tuned for light, athletic handling. A light, Controlled-Fill, aluminum swingarm casting complements the bike’s lithe style. Low, sculpted seat holds the rider in place, and pullback bars reach back to enforce a casual, urban cruising style. A 6-degree yoke angle, the first ever on a street-legal Star Motorcycle, makes it possible to achieve that custom look as well as neutral handling and straight-line cruisability: 33-degree rake plus 6 degrees yoke angle gives total rake of 39 degrees and 102mm of trail. Custom 5-spoke wheels carry a 120/70-21-inch bias tire up front, and a wide, 210/40-18 radial out back, the tallest and widest ever on a Star. 46mm fork tubes serve a sweet appearance and an excellent ride through 5.1 inches of wheel travel. A tucked-out-of-sight single shock out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads. Flangeless fuel tank carries a full 4.2 gallons of fuel. Front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power and feel, with a 310mm disc out back. Strong, light and narrow belt final drive contains embedded carbon fiber for even greater strength. Wiring harness uses super-slim wires for compactness and lighter weight, and switchgear wiring is routed inside the handlebar for a clean appearance.

                  Ducati Monster 696 Features

                  • Engine Features - The New Ducati Monster 696 produces 80hp (58,8kW) @ 9,000rpm and 50,6lb-ft (7,0kgm) of torque @ 7,750rpm. The new crankcases hug the gearbox internals much closer to create a smaller and more compact outer profile and achieve considerable weight savings over previous cases. Providing a deep and rich exhaust tone within current noise and emissions regulations is no mean feat, but the Monster 696 definitely provides the L-Twin sound famous of Ducati. Its bold, high-level twin mufflers also make a striking style statement. The exhaust system on the 696 has one Lambda probe dedicated to each cylinder, enabling precise fuelling for a smoother power delivery as well as complying with current emission regulations. At high rpm it would be almost impossible for the valve to follow the steep closure profile of the cam lobe if it were relying upon a normal valve spring. With the Desmo system, the valve is closed mechanically with the same accuracy as it is opened, enabling steep cam profiles and radical cam timings.

                  • Chassis Features - The New Ducati Monster 696 heavily tapered and deeply sculpted fuel tank cover allows maximum comfort and control. Light tubular steel Trellis frame with aluminium rear sub-frame is the visual and structural backbone of the Monster. Delivering unparalleled rigidity with minimal mass, the chassis design is pure Ducati in its ingenuity and simplicity. The Monster 696 has a net benefit to the overall light weight of the machine. The dry weight of 161kgs (355lb) has dramatic effects on not just manoeuvrability and ease of use, but also by contributing directly to increased performance, braking and acceleration. Outstanding grip and unbeatable riding comfort are ensured by a 43 mm Marzocchi upside down stanchion fork, which provides 120 mm of suspension travel. A Sachs monoshock unit with progressive linkage provide a wide spectrum of both spring and damping settings. Lightweight 3-spoke aluminium alloy wheels increase agility and reduce rider effort. The 3.50x17 front wheel wears a 120/60ZR tyre while the 4.50x17 rear wheel runs 160/60ZR rubber.
